Good Afternoon,
This verse brings up a bunch of questions for me. Its the last sentence in the book. The book doesn't come out and address it. So, is it self explanatory?
1 John 5:21
Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.See what I mean? I wonder if the messenger was getting ready to leave and John needed to get that point out and ran out of time. Kind of like school days when the teacher says 'times up, hand in your work' and you scramble to get that last question done. I'm sure that's not what happened.
Ok, back to what inspired me.
I am trying learn about what God wants from us and here is what my take is.
Are you chasing idols, dreams or God? "I" think 'dreams' are ok, some dreams inspire us to do great deeds. Sometimes we dream about a bigger house/yard, vacation or that 2011 Mustang Shelby GT-500 with 5.4L V8, 5-speed manual, leather seats, 500+ Horse Power..... Ok, maybe that's just my dream. The danger is when we take that dream to a point of consuming our thoughts. When "we" work harder in order to make enough money to buy it, have we just made our dream an idol? I think John makes you sit back and examine what 'our' idol is for your self. Our goal should always be God and chase Him. Now if God wants me to have that Mustang..... Well you know, its just a dream.
God's Grace and Christ's Love.
