What Do I need to Backpack Philmont : Crew and Personal Equipment for Philmont

   Physical Fitness for Philmont:

To get ready for Philmont, you must be ready to commit to a long and dedicated workout schedule. This Workout will start in January. Everyone WILL be working on Aerobic and muscle conditioning. Jogging or biking 3 times a week will help get you ready for the altitude. You should increase you distance or time as we get closer to July. You need to be able to carry a 50-60lb back. We will be doing workup hikes on the Weekends. That will include Saturday and Sunday. This must start NOW or you will never be ready for Philmont. Failure to not follow a workout routine will make your experience at Philmont out right miserable. You may even be required to LEAVE the trek and will be responsible for getting yourself back home.

Workout Routine (Aerobics): Start out Slow and short. In January, Start with 1 mile. When you can jog without stopping, increase the distance and keep increasing it weekly till you get to 3 miles. We will put some challenge jogs of 5 -7 miles to get a Baldy test in!

Workout Routine (Backing): Start out Slow and short. This will start when we get ready for our April Backpacking trip. What we need to accomplish here is getting used to the Weight and the long distances we will need to cover at Philmont. Duplicating the Height and Altitude changes will be more difficult. To do this, we will hike on as many Steep hill as we can find.

Expedition 621-Q1

We need to select our Trek now so please get your selection in before it's too late. You can use PhilSearch to help guide your selections. Think of the places you want to see to help you narrow your selection down. Activities will also help narrow it down. If you don't care which trek but, have a strong desire to see certain places or activities, please email that to me and I will make a list of those.

Here are the Choices "some" of the Crew picked. Use PhilSearch to "SEE" what kind of trek they have selected.
